In 1980, I had a son with autism. During that time, they institutionalized children and they did not have the opportunity to attend a public school. I refused, and became a teacher for special needs children. I teach in a self-contained program with students having mild/moderate intellectual disabilities. They also have behavioral issues. They are all identified with low cognitive abilities. They often have limited reading, writing, and mathematics skills. I also teach social skills and functional life skills with real-world applications. As of April 13, 2018, I will no longer post requests for my classroom, fellow colleagues, or for this school. This decision was made following a negative evaluation in part due to my involvement with Donors Choose.
