Based on my past practices and knowledge of my students' learning differences. Each student is unique and I need to be prepared to meet all of their individual needs and learning styles. Studies show one of the best ways for students to learn is by providing movement, music, and sensory opportunities to help each child. I will incorporate movement, music, and sensory opportunities to increase students' awareness and body regulation. This is crucial when teaching students' social-emotional health. Mental health is so important when teaching the whole child. Students are coming to school while facing many obstacles in their lives. We as educators need to help our children deal with these struggles. Emotional and social learning is a must. We as educators must reach Mazlow's hierarchy before Blooms Taxonomy. Our students cannot learn if their basic needs are not met. My project is going to be used to create a sensory room where students can come to feel safe and loved. When students are not regulated they need a place to use strategies to get their bodies back in the green zone or ready to learn. My project will help me create a safe environment where true social and emotional learning can take place. I chose tools to help my students regulate their bodies. I plan on using the Crash Pad, Inflatable Punching Bag, Sensory Sox, trampoline, Hilltops, and Pea Pod for students to use to deescalate themselves. The Bubble Tube and Singing Bowl will be used for mindfulness activities which will help calm my students who are anxious, mad, or overly excited. The ball and weighted puppy will help apply pressure to my students who need to calm their bodies. These tools will be helpful in helping my students with their social and emotional regulation.
