The single most positive influence on a child's ACT or SAT scores is that their parents read to them. This project takes that foundation a step further by putting books into students' hands for them to read to themselves and to each other...books that are rich in description and information...that students can discuss and debate and share. My students need books like SHILOH that provide such thorough character development and challenging themes...like FRINDLE that show how far a unique idea can take you...informational books that engage them in learning. In this technological age, I don't want my students to lose the skill of literacy. Technology is a wonderful tool, but nothing compares to the richness of one's own imagination that is so well-developed by reading BOOKS.
