The ACTFL (Academy of the Teaching of Foreign Language) recommends that 90% of the Foreign language classroom time should be conducted in the target language and that the language read and heard should be comprehensible to the student. Having a reading library at the student level is one way to reach this goal. The books in this cart would be going toward building a library that will support the students' language acquisition. These books are written by teaching professionals using cognates and limited vocabulary that is supported by a glossary. They also will reinforce vocabulary and structures learned in class. By having a variety of reading materials, the students will be able to choose books at their level and based on their interests for our Free Voluntary Reading time. Research shows that the more a student reads, the more language they acquire. And the students are more likely to read if they have several different reading materials to choose from. Your generous donation to our classroom library, will change students’ lives through the stories they will read of other people and places, their increased confidence in reading in a second language and the resulting motivation to read more and learn more about the Spanish language and its many cultures.
