I have chosen a plush, shag rug for this project. It comes in a variety of colors, but I wanted it to be inviting and not too distracting. This rug will make our gathering area more comfortable and inviting for my students. It is large enough that they will all fit comfortably, while still maintaining their own personal space. I believe this will help the class feel united as a group, yet valued as an individual. It is my hope that a more welcoming area will increase the children's desire to sit together and actively participate in class discussions and lessons. Students will also be able to sit, or lay, on this carpet during their center and independent work/reading times.
