I teach in an economically disadvantaged school located in a large urban city in Texas. I have been fortunate to teach science to kids who sometimes cannot read well or barely speak English but are enthusiastic about doing experiments and learning about nature by being able to explore outside. Although I am the only "full time" science educator in my building (others have to also do math) I primarily teach fifth graders because that's the level which is tested on the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test.
