As part of the middle school art curriculum, we explore a variety of skills and mediums to build a foundation for a wide range of artistic expressions. We incorporate the Principles and Elements into our lessons, as well as connecting our projects to different art styles, time periods and artists. One of the most loved projects we work on is the linoleum printmaking project! Through this project, we learn about positive and negative space, how to work with colored inks, mixing inks, a how to carve a variety of lines and textures to create visual interest and exciting works of art. This printing press will allow our students to learn how to work with a printing press. Similar equipment is used in higher levels of education and real world exposure to visual arts equipment. In addition, the ink will be utilized to create vibrant prints. The linoleum is a wonderful material used to create block printing projects for the middle and high school level.
