I want to buy 5 copies of 5 books for my students to read and share over the summer. I would like to offer my students the opportunity to participate in a summer book club. Middle school students love nothing better than the opportunity to get together and talk. Giving my students engaging literature will offer them a purpose and direction for meaningful conversations. I want to keep the reading momentum my students have built over the school year going by meeting with them periodically over the summer for an informal book club and book swap. Educational research proves there is a direct correlation between the time a student spends reading and the level of achievement he or she attains. Having a shared point of reference will jumpstart our ELA classes in the fall. It would mean the world, figuratively and literally, to my students to be able to travel wide and far this summer between the pages of a few good books!
