I am going from teaching 20 energetic kindergartners to 30 of them! I teach at a Title 1, PI school in a PI district. Our district is in such disarray and in a financial bind that we had to lay off many teachers and increase class size. Near 70% of our student body receive free and reduced lunch. The families lack funds to help with classroom supplies, as do the schools. Such costs are put on us, the teachers. For more than 75% of the up-coming kindergartners, this will be their first school experience. Many families can not afford pre-school.
