I want to create a Peace Place in my classroom. A Peace Place is a safe place for students to go when they need a break. This area will be for any and all students that need a break or a chance to decompress. For our Peace Place, we need a variety of touch and visually stimulating items and the iPod will be loaded with calming music and sounds. The headphones will be plugged in and ready for easy access. The variety of different fidgets will be the touch stimulating items. If they choose, students will be able to use the puzzle cube and pyramid to solve a puzzle. Students could use the stress balls or the stretch tools to release energy. They could also use the fidget cube to relieve stress and anxiety. Visually stimulating items are the color changing salt lamp and the liquid motion bubbler. I have seen areas like this work in different classrooms and I think my students would really benefit from having this safe space to go to. I will use the shelf and carpet to create the Peace Place and it will also be where these items are stored for easy use. My students will be taught how to listen to their bodies and decide when a break is beneficial for them.
