By utilizing this Simple Machines kit, my students will have the opportunity to develop both their conceptual understanding of what should happen with the real-world experience which includes the cost of friction and how these machines can interact in practical arrangements. The hands-on practice with pulleys, levers, and the other machines will be tremendous to build on as we learn about efficiency, mechanical advantage, and power. The simple machines are the basis of much machinery and engineering efforts, thus we are growing our next generation of STEM experts. The kit will enable my students to see first-hand how the concepts pioneered by DaVinci and others are still so important to all of our current machinery.
