A new but extremely effective trend in education is alternative seating, offering students diverse options aside from the typical plastic chair and desk. This change in classroom organization is proving to be effective for a wide range of learners for several reasons. Human beings were not designed to sit for 8 hours a day in plastic chairs. As our society has become more sedentary in most aspects of life, educators are looking for ways to help students keep active and healthy. Wobble stools, floor seating, and standing desks are just a few ways to keep students engaging their muscles all day long. While alternative seating physically engages students, it is also mentally engaging. Students may choose seats that fit their learning style and can help them focus. Students will have the most success when there are comfortable and in the environment that best suits their needs.
