As Albert Einstein said, “Never memorize something that you can look up.” In today's society, we are equipping children with access to unlimited information by using technology. They have become dependent on finding what they want on the internet. What happened to the "good ole days" of going to the library, using the Dewey Decimal System, and finding a book on what we wanted to know? My students do not even know what the Dewey Decimal System is! While I encourage the use of technology in education, I'm just an old fashioned teacher at heart who wants my children to love reading, love picking up books, and learning interesting things from them. I want them to improve fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, all while learning my favorite subject EVER.....SCIENCE!!! Having literacy/reading centers in my science classroom would be wonderful! I will use the materials from this grant weekly during small group time and teacher time. I love that they cover my standards and will give me the opportunity to gauge learning in different content areas! Please help supply our classroom library with these exciting books!
