As a seventh grade science class, we study ecosystems as well as the goods and services they provide. One of the key issues we tackle is how resources get used by various organisms over time. With a tablet that my students can take to our eco lab, students can document and categorize the specimens that we are observing. My students are inherently really skilled with and enthusiastic about technology, despite the disadvantages they face daily. Many students do not have access to technology at their homes, but with a powerful tool to use at school, my students can build digital literacy while they explore the outside world. They have many questions and observations, so a program that sorts and organizes data will be incredibly useful! We can take our observations back to the class and examine them on the large screen in class. Students will be excited to see the pictures they captured and the data they collected outside on display for their peers to interpret. Slideshows, charts, tables are just a few of the many digital literacy skills my students will practice with the help of this tablet.
