As a school social worker, I do a lot of work at my desk. There are many points in my day when I just can't sit anymore. This causes me to need to step away from my desk and not complete tasks such as reviewing transcripts and grades or finding resources for a family that has recently been evicted from their home. Many students prefer to come into my office and stand rather than sit; they sit most of the day as well. I would love to be able to work with them at a standing desk rather than them feeling as though they have to sit down. A standing desk will also encourage students to ask questions as to why I would rather stand than sit. I can use these times as a learning opportunity for students to understand how sitting can affect one's body in negative ways.
