The interdisciplinary Nature Connection project will encompass a wide range of outdoor experiences for underserved students that have limited opportunities to interact with the natural world. Student will have the opportunity to earn English, Biology/Environmental Awareness and Physical Education credit through this class. Activities will include but not limited to: snowshoeing, plant/tree identification, fishing, biking, archery, hiking, etc. We have successfully been awarded grant funding to pay for the cost of supplies for the class structure and transportation for this class and now we need your help to support appropriate coverings for our at risk youth while enjoying outdoor winter activities. Expected outcomes are equitable experiences: students will have first-time experiences in natural settings, students will learn hands-on skills to interact in the natural world, students will increase skills in environmental science and physical education through hands on learning. Students will travel to local parks including Whitewater State Park, Chester Woods, Oxbow, Quarry Hill Nature Center, Ironwood, Camp Victory, Coyote Creek, and Girl Scouts camp to learn while in nature. Families will be invited to attend culminating experiences to encourage future nature experiences outside of school.
