The use of an iPad in the small group classroom would greatly enhance and support what is being taught each day. Having several levels within each class creates opportunities for technology to meet students at their individual level and reinforce skills previously taught. There are many programs and applications that have been created that will help build literacy and math skills. Kids A-Z allows students to choose specifically leveled eBooks and utilize interactive annotation tools to support close reading skills. BrainPOP allows kids to learn about history, current events, as well as subjects like Science, Math, Art, and Music. Along with these two amazing programs, there are many that introduce and strengthen vocabulary like Flocabulary and Moby Max. Big Brains, Arcademic Skill Builders, and Hooda Math also work with math fact fluency that help provide a strong base for learning more complex math skills. IPads provide accessibility features like Clips app which allows "speech to text", "text to speech", and "read to" for our struggling learners. The iPad also gives students the flexibility to move around the classroom and school building throughout the day. It provides students with a knowledge and understanding of technology that improves 21st century skills in our all-encompassing world of technology. Students will become more engaged and more confident in their individual learning.
