Graphic novels are extremely engaging for students. Chapter books can seem overwhelmingly long for reluctant readers - big blocks of text cause immediate hesitancy. Graphic novels are a perfect middle ground as students bridge from picture books to denser chapter books. Graphic novels are high interest texts - students are consistently drawn to them. They have abundant illustrations that offer support for students as they try to figure out unknown words and navigate more complex storylines. And they are a lot of fun! These book would not only serve to nurture a love for reading, but also increase student reading achievement!
