In my classroom, the students need opportunities to experience learning in a variety of ways. Much of our day is filled with hands-on learning experiences. The Design and Build Engineering Centers and Young Architects Design Blocks - Starter Set encourage the open-ended building of real-life designs and structures like bridges, vehicles, and houses. The addition of Light Table Manipulative Center will integrate properties of color and light while building math, language, and science skills at the same time. I have a light table in my classroom, but we lack manipulatives for the light table. The Magnetic Pattern Blocks, Crystal Climbers, and Crystal Blocks will provide opportunities to construct structures on the light table as well as anywhere else in the classroom. By having a variety of building manipulatives to choose from, the students can work collaboratively with their peers and teachers to make connections across the content and to their world outside the classroom. The combination of materials allows students to express their creativity throughout their instructional day. This project will give my students voice and choice and allows for a variety of student engagement.
