My students are primarily 10th graders in English classes. Many of them are bilingual or multi-lingual, but I have an increasing proportion of students who are in the beginning stages of speaking, understanding, reading or writing English. They are sometimes energetic and, at times, exhausted! Most of them like to use technology in their learning and many are visual learners. Tenth graders in my school are so clearly between childhood and adulthood. Many have jobs or family responsibilities after school, yet most are so eager to learn and to help other classmates, or their teachers. Students will often volunteer to translate or help explain a concept to a classmate, or will let an adult know if someone needs assistance. What I love most about my students is their immediate reaction of gratitude to even the smallest kindness. And they are so quick to share what they have with others, even when they don't have much.
