Our classes are racially diverse with children from the inner city of New Orleans. We are hoping to travel to France this year. This trip represents an opportunity for a life altering transformation of each child. My students have achieved high academic success in spite of facing tremendous daily adversity living in a city struggling for normalcy since Hurricane Katrina. For them to to experience first hand the culture of another society will truly be the epiphany of their French education, as well as a chance to break the often repeated cycle of low expectations fueled by hope alone. To dream something huge and achieve that dream will be something these kids will hold onto forever. This experience will make real what is currently just wishful thinking and enrich the lives of these talented children. Although we have worked tirelessly in our fund raising efforts, we need additional help to make our dream come true.
