Through cooking, students can learn about fractions, sequencing, more or less than, recipe following, life skills, and so much MORE! This special group of kids need to learn life skills. For some, this will be the only education they get in this area. Between complicated home lives, educational demands, and worries we will NEVER know, for some this builds fellowship, creates schema, and gives them an experience they may not get otherwise. Cooking in the classroom adds so much to our students' educations! Through our cooking class, we prepare the snacks or meal as a classroom community or family. We sit down as family to share our thoughts and feelings on the experience, enjoy our bounty, and enjoy fellowship. From this experience, we are also working on writing, whether it be preparing an article as a "food critic", informational writing, persuasive writing, or simple ingredient copying for our lower level students, EVERYONE is learning!
