Brave. My students are the bravest people I've met in a while. Despite any learning, economic, or social difficulties they may endure on a daily basis, they show up. Not only do they show up, but they do it with hugs and the biggest smiles that brightens their teacher's whole day. They show up and try their best on whatever lesson we are working on. Even though some know that the rest of their day at school may be tough, they show up. Brave. That is what they are. This year I get to pull 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students into my room to work on reading and math. Next year, I transition back to regular education fourth grade, and will get to have my current third grade "brave" students in my homeroom. I can't wait to see what the future holds.
