As a class, we will work together to read and analyze this text. We will learn lessons about kindness and friendship. We will learn to lean on others in times of need. We will hold coffee house style discussions where students can discuss thier own thoughts and feelings about the book as it relates to thier own lives. In this book, you meet Max and Freak, two boys who each have thier own set of issues with the world and learn about how their unique friendship allows them draw from each others strengths to help thier own weaknesses. Students will choose a kindness project (each choosing thier own), that will help others who struggle either socially or academically. These books will be used year after year, allowing each new group of seventh graders to read and understand this amazing friendship.
