If you walked into our first-grade classroom today you'd probably conjure up memories of your grade school years. Bright colors, lots of visuals, just an overall welcoming environment. Then you might head to the reading corner where all of our library books are. You may see an old favorite and pick it up, perhaps, "The Giving Tree," or maybe you were more of a "Madeline" fan you'll choose a book and open it up. Upon closer inspection you will notice that the spine has been taped many times, you may flip to the end and realize that it's missing some pages! My kids love books and they do care for them but the current state of our books is in disrepair. They have been held and loved by six and seven-year-old learners for many many years now and the books have seen better days. It's difficult to teach reading comprehension when books are missing pages! Imagine a school without a library, if you can, then you are familiar with the school my students attend. The only books they get their hands on are the books that I supply to them in our classroom libraries. It's time for a classroom library upgrade so the students and continue to discover a whole new world in each book they read.
