Currently, the space for advanced learners and students receiving reading intervention is bleak and old. The tables snag your clothes, the books are on old wooden shelves that don't match, and the rug is dirty and dingy. It seems like a punishment to have to go there. LVM's Learning Lab will be an inviting place to access remedial or advanced learning at a scheduled time, during lunch clubs, before school to read to my therapy dog, or even as a drop in space for when other work is complete or a quiet place is needed outside of the room. I really imagine this being a place students WANT to visit instead of a space where students HAVE to go. I want it to be fresh and new and says "learning here is important!" Also, I am a trained handler as part of the "Read To Me" program with therapy dogs. I want a space that is open to dependent learners before school to participate in this amazing experience. Who wouldn't want to come to this space before school and read to a dog! (the bean bag in the picture belongs to another teacher, but that is the actual therapy dog!)
