Our state's standards are changing this year. Our new curriculum is task based. My students are going to need hands-on labs and experiments to demonstrate their mastery of a standard. We do not have tables for our classroom and our desks are slanted which do not permit the use of scientific tools and liquids safely. We need new tables and stools. Diversity is valued and embraced at our school, but it does present some challenges. We have a high number of students who struggle with vocabulary and we try to overcome this obstacle with the use of visual aids and simulated labs. Lab experiences allow them to problem solve and learn through discovery. Sitting at tables also facilitates peer tutoring and students can actually use the vocabulary in context. Thanks!
