In my Kindergarten classroom, I encourage my students to find a spot in the room that they enjoy. We have tables if they choose to stay at their seat, but we also have small rugs, pillows, cushions, stools, and crate seats. During whole group instruction my students sit on a classroom rug to allow for a more relaxed, intimate setting. This large classroom rug would be used for many different opportunities in my classroom. Kindergarten students need a visual of where to sit. With this rug, each student would have a square to sit or stand in. During stations, my students could use this rug to work comfortably with a partner or a group on station work or playing academic games. In my classroom we spend more time working together on the rug than at the tables independently. This large rug would benefit my students greatly so that they can be comfortable and work collaboratively.
