Our high school is growing more and more diverse as the years pass. One of two city schools in the district, it is currently a predominantly minority school with an even mix of Hispanic and African American students. Many of our students are first generation Americans, and some may be the first member of their family to graduate from high school and/or attend college. Our AP courses are filled with students who are seeking the opportunities for higher education, but may lack the funds to do so. Our school has been working to build its AP and Honors program in order to help our students have the best chance at a successful future. We want them to overcome these hindrances to meet their true potential. These students have a thirst for knowledge that is a rarity. While the state of North Carolina has dropped in its education statistics, these students are those who will not let a reputation stop them from accomplishing their dreams and making a difference in the world.
