As an elementary school counselor, I support students in grades pre-K through 6. One of the primary issues that arises is how to treat others with kindness and respect, and how to advocate for yourself and others in difficult situations. Learning kindness, respect, and advocacy are lifelong skills that are introduced in these early elementary years. Literature is one of the best ways to teach young children these concepts, and I am hoping to develop a library of books to support my students social and emotional development in this area. In classroom lessons, small groups, and with individual students, I will use these books to introduce and teach these vital skills.
