My students will use this class set of books to combine literacy and social studies. Hoot is a book set in Florida about an endangered animal, the burrowing owl, and a group of kids' attempts to save it. This book will allow us to combine literacy standards with both social studies and science standards. In an attempt to integrate learning as much as possible, we would be able to focus on Florida as the setting of the novel, including geographical regions. We would also be able to talk about endangered animals and ways we can go about protecting wildlife native to Florida.
