Many of the students I teach are at risk and come from low income families. Their parents have a hard time putting food on the table and do not have the money to purchase books in their budget. It has fallen on the schools to provide these materials. Funding for schools is behind and reading programs are being cut. We are no longer provided money to buy materials we need in our classroom. I try to find books at yard sales and second hand stores, but have a difficult time finding the types of books my students need to be successful.
