This novel explores so many relative coming of age experiences that my students will be able to relate to. Adeyemi's writing is unlike any young adult fiction I've read. The story is written from three different character perspectives, making it a challenging yet riveting read for my high achieving students. My students ache for the novel that ignites their reading passion, and this is the one! Her writing is rich yet relative, and it accompanies the necessary English language arts standards that we need to cover while offering so much more for my students! This would be reading as work but will feel like reading for pleasure, and that makes it worth it to the kids!
