This year I have focused on fostering a love of reading in my classroom. Every day, I read picture books to my students, we read a chapter book together, and my students read independently. This has fostered a deeper love of reading in my students. Because of this, they have read through most of the high interest literature in our classroom library. Lately they have been asking me for specific titles from various high interest series such as Bone, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, and Dork Diaries. It is discouraging when I tell them that we don't have the book they want to read. Adding these titles to our classroom library will ensure that the students have access to literature they are excited to read. It will enhance my students' reading experience in the classroom. Additionally, it will help them grow in their reading abilities. Truly the best way to improve as a reader is to read, and the way to make this happen is to have access to enjoyable, interesting texts.
