My students are at an age where they are very impressionable. Many are wise beyond their years when it comes to street smarts but have not had the opportunity to broaden their horizons beyond their neighborhood. They attend an elementary school in a large urban school district in Wisconsin. Our school population is almost all African American and most are eligible for free and/or reduced lunch. My students have such unique and interesting personalities and are at an age where I can still reach them and make an impact in their life. They want to do well, many of them just need that extra push towards their next opportunity.
