I love to gather my students on our classroom rug for read alouds and discussions. But students often argued over where to sit. I found that allowing students to choose a permanent spot on the rug made the transition much easier. It also gave each student their own special spot to sit. The problem now is that my group of 28 does not all fit on our rug. Many of them have to sit off of the large rug. Rugs for routine would create a larger space for comfortably gathering all together. Personal rugs would allow for students to have a special spot of their own even off of the larger class rug. The rugs would enhance the routine we already have going!
