The core of our reading class, as you can see from our classroom rules, is about equity of student voice and experience. An integral part of our success is the ability to have small group reading circles, stations, and interventions. Student achievement and success is tied to our small group. This past year, we have made due with the materials available to us in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and sharing our campus with another school. We are in need of a kidney table, stools, a stand-up desk/podium for presentations, and cubbies for organization. These materials would make a world of difference in our classroom and in the ways students benefit from small groups. Small groups provide students with diverse and unique needs to have the individualized attention they need and deserve. In my classroom, my students have diverse backgrounds including ESL students, Special Education students, and on-level students. Differentiating instruction is the key to their success and the goal of every lesson!
