Scholastic News has been a part of my classroom culture before as I taught younger grades and I always felt it was a great tool, but the level of discussion and production I have witnessed in my current grade(s) eclipses what I thought possible. We use the magazine weekly as part of a student-led literature center. Students discuss, debate, write, and draw about world events that many of them would never hear about from any other source. The layout and design of each article begs my students to delve deeper. The pictures are gorgeous, the writing relevant, and humor incredibly clever. I love giving my students more control over their learning as articles spark research, conversations, and discoveries each week. I look forward to seeing where my students will venture next.
