My first graders love to read! We have built a leveled library in our classroom where each student has access to books that they can read at their own level. Not all students have access to books at home that they can read. Reading during the summer months fosters reading growth! Having a variety of fiction and non-fiction books to take home will keep the students interested and wanting to read. To help prevent the "summer slide", each student will take home 10-12 self-selected books at their own reading level in hopes that they will gain reading achievement during the summer months rather than lose. I have chosen books at all different reading levels so that my students can continue their love of reading at home. What could be better than sunshine, laughter, and great books!!
