I work at a low income school, and a lot of my students don’t have access to books. Most students, at other schools, can escape this by going to their school library and checking out popular titles. Unfortunately, my school has consolidated their library. The library now services the elementary, middle, and high school. As a result, the library lacks a lot of the new and engaging books that my kiddos would be interested in. I work really hard to have a classroom library that has many different types of books for kids to get excited about. This year I’ve really been able to connect with students through reading. Each week I do a “book raffle” - I talk about a book, and if a student wants to check it out first they put their name on a post it. After school, I draw a random student to checkout the book first the following day. They LOVE the book raffle, but I’ve run out of books to talk about. As result, I’d love to add fresh titles for my students to continue to get excited about reading. I have spent a lot of my own money buying books for my classroom. I spend time thrifting and going to garage sales to add to my classroom library. I've reached out to friends and family members asking for donations. I do this in hopes that I can surround my students with books. Please, help me add to my classroom library.
