Many of my scholars are still learning to read in second grade, and even those who can read are still learning how to read fluently. In second grade, scholars learn how to read not just one word, but how to make those words flow into a sentence and then into a story. Every child loves hearing a great story. With this listening center and the read-along books, my scholars would be able to hear great stories every day and at the same time, they would be learning to read! Hearing and reading stories helps foster a love of reading in children. Since my school does not have a library, I want to supplement my class library by adding a listening center so that struggling readers can hear stories and begin to fall in love with reading.
