My third graders are reading more fluently every day! They thirst for higher level vocabulary and will use a reading center to both visualize and hear new words. The specific books I have chosen will compliment our Reading, Science, and Social Studies curriculum while focusing on non fictional texts. Using a listening center to both visualize and hear text will increase a student’s fluency. They will be able to see how words are read and hear how to pronounce them. It also provides a “fun” way to learn. The listening center will work in conjunction with our ELA centers during reading instruction. Each student will work in a group that will rotate through this center. It enhances cooperative learning in a setting that pressure free.
