My students need more support for language learning through hands-on classic big bricks, vocabulary match-ups, match and sort along with pencil boxes, dry erase sleeves, and file folders that will help facilitate their use, fluency, and proficiency of the English language; such as task cards for language, grammar, and decoding. Many of the resources I chose will be used to create and organize hands-on learning activities for my English language learners. As I am nearing the end of my first year of teaching at the elementary level, I am learning about things that are necessary materials to have on hand at all times for my students. Given the nature of my work, which consists largely of working with students in small groups and individual interventions, myself and my bilingual assistant need to have many manipulative and hands-on learning activities ready to go at all times for our students. As language specialists, we are able to see student needs, and help them meet specific language goals. The sets of task cards and matching games are great resources for English language learners and would be a great addition to my classroom, For example, many of my students struggle at decoding words and pronouncing common/irregular spelling patterns and vowel teams. I plan to write letters, vowel teams, and common spelling patterns and morphemes on the lego blocks to create a fun word building set that can be used for many different phonics activities throughout the year. This strategy is not only hands on, but can help students who learn by color grouping, so that students can associate color with parts of a word such as vowel, prefix, suffix, or blend. Other materials such as the clear crayon boxes and multicolored dot stickers will be used to help organize activities and task cards by language proficiency level. I find it easier to organize by color and level to best suite the needs of my classroom and organizing data and activities for such a large number of students.
