Our curriculum is based on pretend play. These items will affect my students positively as they explore their world. My students will expand their vocabulary as they use the baby doll changing table and newborn clothes to explore caring for a baby. They will learn how to be a parent, older sibling, aunt, or grandparent as they practice caring for a baby. They will develop sequencing skill as they explore the steps in feeding a baby or changing its diaper. The newborn clothes will enhance my students' fine motor skills as they learn to put on and take off the baby doll's clothes. The changing table and newborn clothes are props my students will use throughout the year as our themes changes from family to hospital nursery and so forth. The sand/water table will help my students explore their sensory world. They will use this table to play with sand, water, and other items like raw rice or raw beans to help develop their sensory system and their imagination. This table will allow students to choose the materials they want to explore on a daily basis. It will provide them with an opportunity to explore materials they normally wouldn't explore. This table will help develop vocabulary relevant to expressing what feels good and what doesn't and to describe what they built. All of these props are important for my students' play as they will provide an opportunity for them to enhance their vocabulary, social skills, literacy, and sequencing development. Vocabulary and social skills are very important since several of my students come from families where English is not the spoken household language. These props will also enable my students to explore their world in different roles, increase their vocabulary, and see their world from a new perspective. Thank you.
