My Kindergarten students are enthusiastic and ready to learn. We go to school with approximately 40% English as a Second Language Learners and about 50% low socio-economic students. I have really seen the impact of the economy on my families this year. More of my students this year are impacted by the struggles of their parents providing the basics in their home lives. Roughly half of my students did not attend a pre-school so this is their first school experience. Because this is their first school experience a good deal of my students came to me knowing very little of the basics skills needed to enter Kindergarten. This puts them at a disadvantage and below grade level from the beginning. We have much to do to get ready for first grade! My students are so delightful and eager to learn in spite of their hardships. It is going to be a wonderful year. We can do it!
