I have chosen an 8 quart Kitchenaid mixer for our classroom. We currently have a set of very old 5-6 quart mixers that break on a regular basis. The main reason they break is because of their age and although I have become quite adept at fixing the mixers and replacing the gears I just can't keep them all working all of the time. These old mixers also aren't always big enough for the batters and doughs we need to make for our monthly Bake Shop. A larger, newer mixer would give us one of the tools we need to continue running the Bake Shop. The students have experienced great success running the Bake Shop and it has given them more confidence in their skills. The staff have been very impressed with the products the students have produced and have given a lot of phenomenal feedback that the students use to improve their products. The students are learning life skills and career skills while having a great time in the classroom!
