Have you ever helped a K-2nd grade student who is learning to read get through a book? With the right level of book, kids this age are beaming with pride after they finish reading a story. Have you ever helped a kid cope with a strong emotion? Or get through a difficult situation with a friend? Or teach different ways to take deep breaths to calm down? With this project, I am supporting my students' literacy skills, while teaching important social-emotional lessons. These books will make a difference in their learning through fostering conversations surrounding their social skills, their emotions, their self-regulation, and their self-esteem. These books have been carefully selected to supplement the social-emotional curriculum I currently use in the elementary school setting. For instance, the title, "Sometimes I'm Bombaloo" looks at a little girl who loses control (becomes "bombaloo") after her little brother knocks over a tower she spent forever building. I would be "bombaloo," too. And that's okay... but how can we take a break and deal with bombaloo a little better the next time it happens? Please consider contributing to my students' learning through supporting this project!
