We have begun to implement a research-based comprehensive approach to creating a consistent, predictable, safe, and positive school environment. We focus on 3-5 broad expectations that are taught directly, building-wide, and then students are acknowledged for their appropriate behavior. This approach shifts the focus from the traditional response to inappropriate behaviors of exclusion and punishment to a climate of acknowledging students that are doing it right. Research has shown that using positive behavior supports reduces office referrals, improves learning, and improves the climate and culture of the school. It can be costly to maintain our acknowledgment of desired behaviors and to provide the reinforcers students consider motivating, so we are asking for your support to help fund this initiative. Students have the opportunity to earn items such as: mechanical pencils, headphones, markers and water bottles. "It takes a village." Consider being a part of OUR village.
