We will use these materials to make a difference for our lower-income students and boost their math abilities. The math manipulatives like the dry erase number lines, positive-negative dice, protractors, volume kit, and Pre-Algebra bingo will provide hands-on learning opportunities for our students to have a concrete understanding of integers, fractions, and basic geometry. Manipulatives have been proven to help middle school students gain mathematical conceptual knowledge. One way we will use dry erase number lines and positive-negative dice is by having students roll the dice and complete the operations of addition and subtraction of integers by writing on the number line and using the marker to show the direction and number of times moved. Kennedy Space Center is right across the river and our students need to know a career like that is an option, boosting their mathematics skills will help them get there. Our summer math camp will serve as an equalizer.
