We have a large population of caring, energetic, inquisitive students who face many challenges and hardships at home. For many of our students, our school is the safe, stable rock in their lives. In terms of demographics, well over 70% of our students qualify for our free and reduced breakfast/lunch program. Additionally, our English Language Learner population is nearing 50% and rising. We are identified as a Title I school, too. My fellow teachers, staff members, and I love our positions because we know how much our kids need us. Through budget and program cuts, salary freezes, and labor disputes, we continue to find ways to provide the best education and school environment for our students because we know how much they need and deserve our best. While emphasis on test scores and budget cuts can frustrate our efforts to make time for such subjects as music and art, I feel that it is my personal responsibility to continue to offer creative outlets for my students.
